Sunrise, FL - Stampede forward Cooper Marody became the 32nd Stampede player in franchise history to be drafted by an NHL club when he was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round (158th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft in Sunrise, Florida Saturday. A total of 43 players who have spent time in the USHL were selected b NHL teams over the weekend. In addition, a USHL record 36 players who skated this past season in the league were drafted.

Marody was a key part of the Stampede's Clark Cup championship team this past season in which he led the club in scoring with 58 points (22g, 36a) in 51 games. He was acquired from the Muskegon Lumberjacks in December and posted 49 points (20g, 29a) in 38 regular season games for the Herd. He followed that performance up with 12 points in 12 postseason games as the Stampede captured their second Clark Cup championship in team history. He also participated in the USHL Prospects Game in Dubuque last January. The Brighton, Michigan native will attend the University of Michigan this fall.

In addition to Marody, the Stampede had two incoming players drafted as well. Goaltender Ales Stezka was selected in fourth round (111th overall) by the Minnesota Wild. The 6-foot-3, 178-pound netminder spent last season playing for Liberec of Czech Junior League where he went 21-19 with a .948 save percentage. He was ranked the 4th best European goaltender by NHL Central Scouting and will be in camp with the Stampede this September.

Jack Becker was selected in the seventh round (195th overall) by the Boston Bruins. The forward was on the Stampede's affiliate list this past season as he skated for Mahtomedi High School in Minnesota where he led the Zephyrs in scoring with 47 points (22g, 25a) in 23 regular season games. He led the team to the Minnesota State High School "A" Hockey Tournament where they captured third place. He finished postseason play with a team best 17 points in nine games. Becker was ranked 164th in the final NHL Central Scouting rankings for North American skaters. He has already committed to the University of Wisconsin for the 2016-17 season.
