Capitols Host Bloomington for Teddy Bear Toss Night
December 13, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols (10-7-4) will look to bounce back on Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center as they host their fellow expansion franchise, the Bloomington Thunder (10-11-3) at 7 p.m.
Both clubs are coming off Friday losses; Bloomington fell 2-0 to the Omaha Lancers on home ice, while the Capitols fell 8-1 to the Chicago Steel at the Alliant Energy Center.
Mitch Hults tallied his fifth goal of the season for Madison in the loss. Will Johnson's eight-game point streak came to an end for the Capitols as well.
The loss marked the first defeat for the Capitols in regulation since a 2-1 loss to the same Steel club back on Nov. 2 at the Coliseum. Madison had been 7-0-2 in its previous nine games.
Friday night marked the Capitols' debuts for forwards Kenny Hausinger (Anchorage, Alaska) and Richard Zehnal (Pardubice, CZE). The pair joined the Capitols to make up for absences of Marco Richter (Austria), Guillaume Leclerc (France) and Haralds Egle (Latvia) to the World Junior Hockey Championships.
The meeting on Saturday night marks the first ever between the Capitols and Thunder; both clubs joined the USHL for their expansion seasons this fall. Bloomington enters Madison having just lost its five-game winning streak on Friday in a shutout defeat against Omaha. The Thunder are paced offensively by 20-year-old defenseman Vince Pedrie, a former Indiana Ice star who captured a Clark Cup last season as a teammate of Madison forward Mitch Hults.
The two clubs will meet three more times following the matchup on Saturday in Madison.
Saturday is Teddy Bear Toss night inside the Alliant Energy Center. Fans are encouraged to bring unused teddy bears and stuffed animals to throw onto the ice for the first Capitols' goal. The stuffed animals will be donated to the UW Children's Hospital and other local charities.
Kids will be admitted to all Madison Capitols home games free of charge (with the purchase of an adult ticket) in the month of December in conjunction with UW Health Sports Medicine. Additionally, any fan that brings a food item, personal hygiene product or cash donation to the River Food Pantry to Saturday's game will receive two free tickets to a Capitols game on either Dec. 29 or Dec. 30.
To purchase your Capitols' flex packs, group outing tickets, and other ticket packages and save the most money off of box office prices, call (608) 257-CAPS (2277) or visit www.madcapshockey.com.
