
Expansions Meet in Madison

Madison, WI - After suffering their first loss since November 23rd in a 2-0 contest with the Omaha Lancers last night, the Bloomington Thunder are back in action against the Madison Capitols tonight. The Thunder and Capitols clash as the USHL's two 2014 expansion franchises and will meet for the first time this season from the Alliant Energy Center. Puck drop is at 7:00 pm CST as the Thunder look to rebound in their final game before winter break.

Last night the Thunder were bested by the Lancers in a 2-0 game that saw the Thunder take 35 shots on goaltender Kris Oldham to no avail. Bloomington came out in the first and took 16 shots while taking no penalties. The Thunder are still riding a hot streak going 6-2-1 in their last nine games and have totaled five wins in six games. The team has grabbed nine power play markers in their last 26 chances for a percentage of 34.6. The Thunder are led by Assistant Captain Vince Pedrie (Quinnipiac University) who ranks as the second best active defenseman in the USHL in scoring with 17 points on the season (6g, 11a). Shane Bednard (Bowling Green State University) has also cashed in as of late turning in six points in his last four games (4g, 2a).
The Thunder's counterpart, the Capitols, have grabbed points in nine of their last ten games but were dominated last night by the Chicago Steel 8-1. The used both goaltenders Darren Smith (Ferris State University) and Garrett Metcalf in the decision and were unable to get on the board until the second period. Madison is led by Will Johnson (Dartmouth College) who is tied for the league lead in assists with 20 and currently has grabbed 26 points this season. Madison sits in a two-way tie for fifth place in the USHL with the Steel with 24 points. The Thunder trail the Caps, in the seventh spot, by only one point in the standings.
