Capitals Winning Streak Ends In Victoria

June 19, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

Victoria, BC - The Edmonton Capitals four game winning streak came to a sudden end Friday night in Victoria. The Caps started an eleven game road trip with an 12 - 9 loss to the Seals. Victoria was obviously hungry for a win after being swept in Edmonton earlier this week. Seals centre fielder Mike Mooney hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and Victoria didn't look back. They added another long ball and three-run inning in the third and held on for the victory.

The Caps mounted a couple of comebacks starting in the seventh inning when catcher Pete Farina singled home Matt Rogelstad with runners on first and second and nobody out. The next batter was pitcher Mike Hrynio who was just entering the game out of the bullpen and he launched his second home run of the season to cut the lead in half. Edmonton narrowed the gap to 8 - 5 but Victoria had the answer in the home half of the inning with back to back home runs from Brian Rios and Josh Arhart to restore a five run cushion.

Edmonton's second bid at a comeback came in the eighth inning after a couple of Seals errors lead to a pair of unearned runs allowing the Capitals to close to within two but that's as close as they'd come.

The Capitals record slips to 13 - 11 while the Seals snap out of a five game losing skid and improve their record to 8 - 16. The series in Victoria continues Saturday and Sunday. The Caps will have stops in Chico, St. George and Calgary to round out the road trip before returning home for a Canada Day tilt against the Calgary Vipers. Make sure your July 1st plans include this 4 for $44 Thursday. It's a terrific night out for the family including 4 reserved grandstand tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 pop for just $44. Plus you'll have a terrific seat to watch the City of Edmonton's fireworks display after the game.

The Edmonton Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Capitals season seats start at under $9 per game and are still on sale pro-rated to the end of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, at (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
