Brockton Rox News Release

Quebec City - Every Quebec starter had a hit as the Capitales built an 8-0 lead after three innings and rolled to an 11-1 win over the Brockton Rox on Thursday evening in a Can-Am League semifinal game at Stade de Quebec. With the win, Quebec takes a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five series.

The Capitales scored a run in the first on C Pete LaForest's RBI single, and then tacked on another five in the second on back-to-back RBI singles from CF Goefrey Tomlinson and SS Jeff Helps, and a three-run blast from RF Sebastien Boucher. DH Patrick D'Aoust's two-run homer in the third made it an 8-0 game.

Quebec's other runs came on an RBI double from 2B Seth Henry in the fifth, and another pair of run-scoring singles by Tomlinson and Helps in the seventh.

Brockton's only run was scored on RF Keith Brachold's RBI double in the ninth, scoring 3B Mike Torres.

Capitales starter Karl Gelinas was masterful, pitching eight shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out ten.

Rox starter Julian Sampson was roughed up for six earned runs in an inning and a third. Four Brockton relievers finished off the game.

Torres was the only Brockton player with more than one hit, going 2-for-4 on the night. Four of the six Rox hits were doubles. Tomlinson, Helps, Boucher and D'Aoust each had two-hit evenings for Quebec.

The two teams will travel to Brockton for the rest of the series. John Mariotti will take the mound on Friday night as the Capitales look to close out the series, against either Dustin Birosak or Mike Petrowski for the Rox.
