Brockton Rox News Release

(Brockton, Mass. - September 9, 2011) - The Quebec Capitales (3-0) finished off a three game sweep of the Brockton Rox (0-3) with another outstanding starting pitching performance, leading to a 3-2 victory at Campanelli Stadium Friday night.

John Mariotti (1-0) followed stellar outings from Bryan Rembisz (1-0) and Karl Gelinas (1-0) in games one and two, allowing just one run on six hits in seven innings as Quebec advanced to the Can-Am League Championship Series for the third straight season.

The Rox got on the board in the first inning as Chris Valencia dropped down a bunt single and came around to score on a wild pitch, but would not muster another run until Keith Brachold connected for a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth against Jeff Duda (1).

Seth Henry tied the game at one with an RBI double in the second frame that scored Ivan Naccarata (3-for-4, 2 R) and then Quebec took a 2-1 lead on Goefrey Tomlinson's single in the fourth, plating Patrick D'Aoust.

Le Capitales tacked on the deciding run on a single, two errors, a sacrifice and a wild pitch, leading to Dustin Birosak's (0-1) exit in the top of the sixth inning.

Birosak pitched well in the loss, battling through a bruised left hand. The southpaw gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings, while striking out six and walking out five.

The Rox used five pitchers out the bullpen to hold Quebec's offense quiet over the last four innings, but the Brockton bats never broke out against the Capitales pitching staff, scoring only four runs in three games.

Duda picked up the six out save to close the game and struck out two, before Brachold's home run in the ninth.

Jeremy Hunt went 2-for-3 in his first start of the postseason.

The Rox ended the regular season 51-42, winning 50 or more games for a franchise record third straight season. The Capitales will look for a third straight league title as they await the winner of the series between the New Jersey Jackals (2-0) and the Pittsfield Colonials (0-2).
