New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, N.J.

- The New Jersey Jackals pounded out 18 hits en route to an 8-1 victory on Saturday night, sweeping the Pittsfield Colonials to advance to the Can-Am League Championship series.

The three-game sweep, New Jersey's first playoff sweep since 2001, sends the Jackals back to the league championship series for the first time since 2004. New Jersey will take on the Quebec Capitales in the Championship Series.

With four hits, Sean Smith led a charge of six Jackals who collected multiple hits in the contest. Bryan Sabatella drove in four runs.

The Jackals, who served as the visiting team since the entire series was being played at Yogi Berra Stadium, built up an early 7-0 lead against former Jackal Dave Qualben. In the top of the second, the Jackals loaded the bases before Sabatella rifled a three-run double to right to make it 3-0. In the third inning, New Jersey opened up a 7-0 lead thanks to RBI singles by Mike DeJesus and Chris Anderson and a two-run triple off the bat of Smith. An RBI single by Sabatella in the fifth made it an 8-0 New Jersey advantage.

The Colonials pushed their lone run across in the bottom of the sixth inning, stringing together three consecutive two-out singles with Peter Fatse knocking home Angel Molina.

Jackals' starter Jon Kibler turned in six strong innings, allowing just one run on five singles before turning the contest over to the bullpen. New Jersey's relief corps, which tossed 8 1/3 scoreless innings in the series, finished the contest with three shutout innings as Cody Railsback worked the seventh, Jared Locke pitched the eighth, and Jeff Gogal nailed down the victory in the ninth.

Qualben took the loss, surrendering seven runs over two innings.

The Jackals begin the best-of-five Can-Am League Championship Series at home on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Quebec Capitales at Yogi Berra Stadium. Cody Chrusciel has the call on the live webcast beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.
