
Canucks recall Baumgartner

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose announced today they have recalled defenceman Nolan Baumgartner from the Moose.
Baumgartner, 32, has played in 12 games so far this season with the Moose where he's scored six points (1-5-6) and 13 penalty minutes. His lone goal this season came Oct. 11 vs. Hamilton. Last season, the Calgary, AB native appeared in 18 games with the Moose after joining them on Feb. 27/08 on loan from the Dallas Stars. In that time, he collected six assists and 10 penalty minutes while the Moose went on a 14-2-0-2 run. Prior to joining the Moose, Baumgartner appeared in 56 games last year with the AHL's Iowa Stars. In that time, he scored five goals and 13 assists for 18 points and 47 penalty minutes. He then appeared in three Calder Cup playoff games in the North Division Semi-Final versus the Syracuse Crunch where he collected an assist.
In 210 career games as a Moose, Baumgartner has scored 23 goals and 88 assists for 113 points and 244 penalty minutes. He was named the team's top defenceman in 2003 and 2005. Overall, he has played in 625 career games in the American Hockey League since 1996 where he's collected 63 goals and 225 assists for 288 points and 666 penalty minutes with Iowa, the Philadelphia Phantoms, Manitoba, Norfolk, and Portland. He has appeared in two AHL All-Star Classics in his career - 2005 with Manitoba and as a starter in 2007 while with Philadelphia.
Baumgartner has also played in 131 career NHL games with Dallas, the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Washington. In that time, he's scored six goals and 39 assists for 45 points and 67 penalty minutes. His most productive season was in 2005-06 when he played in 70 games with the Canucks and scored five goals and 29 assists for 34 points and 30 penalty minutes. Baumgartner was originally drafted in the first round, 10th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
