Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, Ontario - Oshawa couldn't catch the Colts at the General Motors Centre on Friday night; they fell 5-3 to Barrie before a crowd of 4185. Barrie scored twice in the opening frame and never relinquished the lead. Generals' Captain and leading scorer, Boone Jenner, scored 2 goals in the loss.

Barrie scored twice in the first period, but Oshawa responded, trimming the deficit to 1.

Matt Petgrave nearly tallied on the very first shift of the game. Streaming in from the point, he wired a wrist shot that beat Colts' goaltender, Mathias Niederberger, but it clanged off the crossbar.

Instead, it was Barrie cashing in first at 5:42. After a spinning shot from the point, Steven Beyers collected the rebound and tucked it through Daniel Altshuller blocker side.

Up 1-0, the Colts added to their lead at 10:35. This time, Andreas Athanasiou buried his 9th of the season - a blast that beat Altshuller's glove hand.

The Generals answered at 12:04. Gathering a rebound in front of the net, Michael Dal Colle went forehand-to-backhand, lifting the puck into the heart of a yawning cage. Dal Colle's 7th narrowed Barrie's advantage to 2-1. Despite being outshot 13-7, the Gens were within striking distance heading into the second.

Beyers continued to be a headache for Oshawa in the middle frame. Scoring his 2nd of the night, the Colts' winger slipped a beautiful deke under Altshuller for a 3-1 Colts' lead.

Clawing back, the Generals connected courtesy of the power play at 8:57. Working from the half-boards, Generals' leading scorer, Boone Jenner, circled in and unleashed his 16th, a wrist shot that fooled Niederberger far-side.

Barrie pushed back with a power play goal of their own at 11:30. Anthony Camara potted a loose puck behind Altshuller doubling Barrie's lead, 4-2.

Ken Appleby came on in relief of Altshuller, but Camara struck again on the power play, this time burying a one-timer from Appleby's doorstep.

Down 5-2, Oshawa kept fighting, and at 16:57, Jenner restored hope. Scoring his second of the game, Jenner accepted a cross-feed from Tyler Biggs and tucked a shot just inside the left post. The Generals were down 5-3 with one period remaining.

Oshawa had their opportunities in the final frame, but Niederberger stood tall, making sparkling, glove-hand stops on Biggs and Jenner.

By game's end, Oshawa reversed their fortunes on the shot clock, they outshot Barrie 39-28, but the Colts battened down the hatches for the 5-3 win.

Chris Carlisle was named the hardest working player of the game.

Boone Jenner picked up the first star selection in a losing cause.

Oshawa hits the road tomorrow night to take on the Otters in Erie. The game goes at 7:00 PM.

The Generals next home game is this Sunday November 11th against the Kitchener Rangers at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. There will be a special Remembrance Day Ceremony before puck drop. Game starts at 6:05 PM.
