Erie, Pa. - Connor Brown's four point night helped carry the Erie Otters to a 6-3 win over the Peterborough Petes Friday night, snapping a five-game losing streak for the Otters.
The Petes took a 2-0 lead early in the game, but the Otters were able to tie it up on a pair of shorthanded goals during the first period.
Connor McDavid, fresh off his SUBWAY Super Series stint, scored his ninth goal of the season after Connor Brown showed great patience on a two-on-one. Brown passed around a diving block by Slater Koekkoek to McDavid in front, and No. 97 deked on the backhand around Andrew D'Agostini for the goal at 8:24.
The game was tied at the 16:10 mark as Adam Pelech scored after McDavid toyed with the Peterborough defense during an Otters penalty kill. McDavid forced D'Agostini to commit behind the net, leaving the goal protected by two Petes defenders. Pelech took McDavid's pass in the slot and fired it into the net for his third goal of the season.
Brown put the Otters in front 2:59 into the second period as he stole the puck from Peter Ceresnak in the Petes zone and came in for a breakaway on D'Agostini, putting the puck around the left pad of the goaltender for his team-leading 15th goal of the season.
The goal ended D'Agostini's night for the Petes, as Michael Giugovaz came into the net. Anthony Cortellessa then scored his first goal of the season during a delayed penalty on the Petes. Cortellessa fired a shot from the high slot that eluded the stick side of Giugovaz at 9:22.
In the third period, Brown ripped a shot from the slot through Giugovaz for a power play goal, his league-leading 11th tally on the man advantage this season. Brown's 16th goal of the season came at 7:47 of the third period.
Greg Betzold put the Petes within two midway through the third, but McDavid was able to seal the deal with an empty net goal with 31.7 seconds remaining for his 10th goal of the season.
