Cannon's Solid Start Not Enough, Winston-Salem Walked Off In Brooklyn 3-2

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - With a tie game in the bottom of the ninth, and a chance to send the game to extras, the Winston-Salem Dash ultimately couldn't close out Friday night's game against the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Dash fell 3-2 in walk-off fashion at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, falling to 1-3 in the six-game set.
The Dash bats got things started early, plating two runs off of Brooklyn's Jeffrey Colon in the top of the second. In his ninth consecutive outing with a hit, Wilfred Veras reached on a single and was ultimately driven home by Shawn Goosenberg. On the next at-bat, Michael Turner grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in Wes Kath and extend Winston-Salem's lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the third, Brooklyn got on the board courtesy of an RBI single from Alex Ramirez, although the run wasn't earned for Jonathan Cannon, who toed the slab for the Dash. The righty turned in an impressive start overall, spinning 4.2 innings and surrendering six hits, one earned run and striking out eight.
Unfortunately for Winston-Salem, the pair of runs in the second proved to be their only offensive production of the night. In the bottom of the fourth, the Cyclones pulled even with an RBI double from Jose Mena off of Cannon, whose night was then concluded.
First out of the bullpen for the Dash was righty Jeremiah Burke, who tossed 3.1 shutout innings, only conceding one hit in the process. He lowered his ERA to 3.32 on the year, currently a career low for the 25-year-old, but it wasn't enough for Winston-Salem.
The Dash bats fell quiet after the second inning, as Loidel Chapelli's third-inning single was the only other hit of the night. In the bottom of the ninth, with Adisyn Coffey on the mound for the Dash, Brooklyn found itself with no outs and a runner on third.
Coffey was unable to escape the trouble as Mena laced a walk-off single for his second RBI of the night, and Brooklyn came out on top 3-2. Colon gave the Cyclones some distance, pitching 6.2 innings of two-run ball, and relievers Quinn Brodey and Jace Beck combined to hurl the final 2.1 shutout innings, with Beck securing the win.
Coffey was charged with the loss for the Dash, his first of the year. Winston-Salem was outhit 9-3, as Brooklyn's bottom three batters in the lineup all registered multi-hit nights to seal the victory.
The Dash now trail 1-3 in the six-game set against the Cyclones. They will meet for game five Saturday night at Maimonides Park, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
