Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Heading into Friday's matchup, the Blue Rocks tallied 18 runs combined last two games against the Renegades. Unfortunately, they could only scratch two runs across in the 5-2 defeat to Hudson Valley.
The only run scored through the first four innings came via a solo home run from Hudson Valley first baseman Spencer Henson. The blast to left-centerfield was his eighth on the season, giving the Renegades a 1-0 lead.
It was the only run Blue Rocks starter Cole Henry gave up through four innings of work. Henry continues to rehab from surgery to repair his bout with thoracic outlet syndrome, his start with Wilmington marks his third rehab start following two scoreless starts in Single-A Fredericksburg.
On the other side, Renegades starter Juan Carela kept the Blue Rocks bats at bay, shutting them out through the first four innings. After an RBI single from Eduardo Torrealba in the top of the fifth pushed the lead to 2-0, the Rocks finally got on the board in the bottom half. A Jacob Young single and error that moved him to third base, and an RBI groundout from Erick Mejia drove him in to make it 2-1.
Both teams pitched a clean half of the sixth inning, holding the score in place until the top of the seventh. Torrealba led off a massive rally from Hudson Valley with a hit-by-pitch. Two doubles and a single that followed it moved the lead to 5-1 heading into the seventh-inning-stretch.
Jacob Young continued his consistent production in his next at-bat, drilling an RBI single that second baseman Torrelba could not field cleanly, and scattered into shallow centerfield allowing Caleb Farmer to score from second. 5-2 Renegades.
That would be the final score of this one, as Renegades reliever Bailey Dees came in for the save and pitched a clean bottom half of the ninth.
The Renegades have the advantage in the series three wins to just one for the Blue Rocks. They finish up the series this weekend with games starting at 6:35 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
