Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Lethbridge Hurricanes have taken a commanding 3-0 lead in their Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Mitch Fadden scored twice and Zach Boychuk had a goal and two assists as the Hurricanes beat the Wheat Kings 4-3 Tuesday night before only 2,888 fans - the smallest playoff crowd in Brandon since 1999.

The loss snapped Brandon's 6-game winning streak at Westman Place.

Lethbridge has a chance to complete a 4-game series sweep on Wednesday night when the two teams square off again at Westman Communications Group Place. Should a fifth game be necessary in the best of seven series, it will be played Friday night in Brandon.

Games six and seven (if necessary) will be played Sunday and Monday nights in Lethbridge.

Nick Hotson also scored for the 'Canes, who received a stellar 31-save effort from netminder Juha Metsola.

Jay Fehr in the first, Brayden Schenn in the second and Daniel Bartek in the third, replied for the Wheat Kings, who outshot Lethbridge 34-20.

After giving up five powerplay goals during the first two games of the series, Brandon's penalty kill was successful in keeping Lethbridge off the scoresheet in game three. However, the Wheat Kings' powerplay was just 1-7 and is now 2-20 in the series.

As was the case on Tuesday, ticket sales have been slow for Wednesday's game. As of Tuesday night, less than 2,400 tickets had been purchased.

Tickets are on sale at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca
