St. Joseph, MO - The Sioux Falls Canaries (12-16) fell a run shy against the St. Joe Blacksnakes (14-14) in a 4-3 defeat on Saturday night at Phil Welch Stadium.

The Canaries scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Chad Hermansen and Abner Arroyo got on base with back-to-back singles and they advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Hermansen scored on an RBI groundout by Bubba Smith to give the Canaries a 1-0 lead.

The Snakes tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Wil Quintana doubled and scored on a single by Jake Whitesides, making it 1-1.

St. Joe went ahead in the fifth. Scooter Jordan doubled and was bunted over to third base. After Cory Harris walked, Cody Nowlin grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Jordan for the Snakes 2-1 lead. Wil Quintana followed with a two-run homer, his league-leading 18th round-tripper of the season, and the Blacksnakes took a 4-1 lead.

The Canaries cut into the lead in the sixth inning. Bubba Smith and Dennis Anderson got on with back-to-back singles and a sacrifice bunt by John Schmitz moved them to second and third base. A groundout by Hall scored Smith, making it 4-2 Blacksnakes.

Sioux Falls dwindled St. Joe's lead further in the seventh. Anthony Monegan singled and stole second base. After Ralph Santana walked, Monegan went to third base on Chad Hermansen's fly out to centerfield. Abner Arroyo followed with a groundout, scoring Monegan, and bringing the Canaries within a run, for the 4-3 final.

J.C. Huget (4-3) got the win for St. Joe and Jamie Tricaglou picked up his 13th save of the season. Sean Donlin (0-5) suffered his third loss at the hands of the Blacksnakes.
