St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
ST. JOSEPH, MO-The Blacksnakes (14-14, 40-36) held on for a 4-3 win over Sioux Falls (12-16, 28-48). Wil Quintana's two-run home run in the fifth inning held up as the difference against the Canaries.
The Canaries struck for the game's first run for the first time in the series in the top of the fourth, but St. Joe tied it in the bottom of the inning on Jake Whitesides' run-scoring single. The âSnakes then took their first lead with three runs in the fifth, concluding with Wil Quintana's two-run home run. It was the slugger's league-leading 18th home run of the year that made it 4-1.
Sioux Falls struck for runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to get within 4-3 but the Blacksnakes bullpen held on for starter J.C. Huguet (4-3). Huguet worked five innings of one run baseball for the win with Jamie Tricoglou tossing a perfect ninth for his 13th save.
The two teams will wrap up their season series with the finale Sunday night at 7:05pm. Mark Nussbeck (7-3) will work for St. Joe against Sioux Falls' Matt Petrusek (1-3). It is "Ice Cream Sunday" and "Bark in the Park" at Phil Welch Stadium with the gates opening at 6pm. The broadcast starts at 6:45pm at 88.9 FM at the ballpark and on the web at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
