Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - Peter Bauer gave the Canaries 7.1 innings of two-run, eight-hit baseball in leading the team to a 4-2 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. The Canaries (7-13) win snapped the Saltdogs (16-4) franchise record nine-game winning streak.

Lincoln drew first blood in the top of the second inning. Kevin Sullivan doubled and scored on a single by Jose Torres to give the Saltdogs a 1-0 lead.

The Canaries wasted no time erasing the deficit. In the bottom of the second, Dennis Anderson led off with a single. Anderson took second base on a wild pitch and then stole third base. Angelo Fermin drove Anderson home with a single to tie the game, 1-1. Fermin advanced to second on Kyle Kmiecik's single, and took third on a double steal. Fermin would score on a groundout by Chris Hall to give the Birds a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Canaries extended their lead. Ralph Santana led off with an infield single and would come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Dennis Anderson. At the end of three innings the Canaries led, 3-1.

Shortstop Angelo Fermin led off the home half of the sixth inning with a solo home run, his first of the season, to give the Canaries a 4-1 lead.

Lincoln got one back in the top of the seventh. Pichi Balet doubled and scored on Sullivan's sacrifice fly to make it 4-2. The Saltdogs would not get closer as the Canaries bullpen shut Lincoln's bats down for the 4-2 win.

Bauer (1-1) picked up his first win of the year. Brian Rodaway (1-1) allowed four runs on ten hits in the loss. John Wesley pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.
