Fort Worth Cats News Release
Shreveport designated hitter Chad Gambill drove in three runs Friday night as the Sports defeated the Cats 6-3 at LaGrave Field.
The loss, the Cats' second in a row drops the Fort Worth record to 11-9 on the season. Shreveport won for the second time in as many games.
Shreveport took an early 1-0 lead on a first-inning RBI single by Austin Easley. The Cats tied the game in the second on Carlos Adolfo's second homer of the season.
The Sports built a 4-1 lead with a run in the third on a Ron Fenwick home run, his first, an RBI single by Melvin Falu in the fourth and a run-scoring single by Gambill in the fifth.
Fort Worth rallied to make it a one-run game in the sixth when Tony Mota hit a two-run homer to right off reliever Aaron Kirkland.
But the Sports scored twice in the seventh on a bases-loaded, two-run fielder's choice by Gambill when Cats' right-fielder Adam Miller crashed into the wall trying to catch Gambill's drive to right-center. The runner from first was thrown out at second after he retreated to first.
Shreveport's Ryan Snyder (1-) earned the win in his first start of the season. He went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Ryan Weems (2-1) suffered the loss as he permitted four runs on seven hits in six innings.
The series continues on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. with Kevin Hull (1-2) going for the Cats and Bert Snow (2-0) on the hill for Shreveport.
