Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
WICHITA, KS-Sioux Falls (15-18) began with the momentum early in game two against the Wichita Wingnuts (18-12), but the Canaries couldn't hold on as the Wingnuts scored four runs in the seventh inning to take the series finale 7-2, at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
The Birds' took an early lead in the top of the sixth as veteran Jason Repko homered for his third time of the season. Wichita answered in the bottom half of the inning as they put a three spot on the scoreboard to take their first lead of the ballgame. Sioux Falls put another run on the board in the top of the seventh as RJ Perucki hit an RBI single to bring the Birds' within one.
It was a different story however in the bottom of the seventh, as Wichita answered with four more runs as the Canaries bullpen failed to hold off the reigning American Association Champions. Sioux Falls sent three pitchers to the mound in the bottom of the seventh to try and record the final three outs of the inning.
The bats ultimately went silent as Sioux Falls only sent up seven batters to the plate in the final two innings.
Brian Humphries and RJ Perucki paced the Birds' offense by picking up two hits apiece in the contest.
Canaries' starter Jeremy Strawn gathered his fourth loss by tossing six innings, on three earned runs and five hits.
Sioux Falls has an off day on Wednesday, before welcoming the Winnipeg Goldeyes to the Birdcage on Thursday June 25th for a four-game series against their divisional foe. RHP Shawn Blackwell (1-4, 2.29 ERA) will look for his second win in a Canaries uniform.
On June 25th at the Birdcage it will be Thirsty Thursday! A family of four will receive four upper executive tickets, four hot dogs and four 20 oz. bottled coke.
Thursday will also feature Military Night with players wearing their military themed jerseys sponsored by Mid-States Audio. The Cartwright Brothers will be performing before the game during Cagey's Pre-game tailgate party beginning at 5 PM.
