
Canadians, Former Lynx Highlight Upcoming Homestand

OTTAWA â The Ottawa Lynx return to Lynx Stadium tomorrow night for the first game of an eight-game homestand, and when they do, there will be some familiar faces in the opposition dugout. Starting on Thursday, the Toledo Mud Hens, the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, will be in Ottawa for a four-game series. The Mud Hens have some Canadian content on their roster, with Pitcher Chris Mears and Infielder Danny Klassen. Mears, a 25-year old pitcher was born in Ottawa and currently resides in Victoria, B.C. Klassen was born in Leamington, ON, and was the 200th Canadian to ever play in the Major Leagues when he made his debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1998.
After Toledo heads out of town, the Lynx welcome the Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. The Clippers have a roster featuring five former Lynx: Designated Hitter/First Baseman Fernando Seguignol, Infielder David Post, Pitcher Mike Thurman, First Baseman Ryan McGuire, and Pitcher Christian Parker. The Clippers also have another famous name on their roster, Third Basemen/Quarterback Drew Henson, who played quarterback at the University of Michigan and was drafted in the recent NFL draft by the Houston Texans.
The upcoming homestand will also feature some great promotions at the stadium: May 1st is Ottawa SUN's Suite Day - The first 400 fans through the doors get to watch the game from a luxury suite; May 2nd is the 2nd Annual Scout SleepoverâLocal Boy Scout troupes will tent out on the outfield after the game! May 4th is Umpire Appreciation Day â The men and women who call the balls and strikes are being honored during day's game, as well, there will be an Umpires clinic held by the International League Umpires on the field Sunday Morning from 9:30 to 11:30. Admission to the clinic is a ticket to the day's game.
