Vancouver Canadians News Release
(County Stadium - Yakima, WA) - Canadians starter RHP Ben White was chased out of the 2nd inning after allowing seven runs on seven hits as the Yakima Bears topped Vancouver 9-1 on Tuesday night to open up a five-game series at County Stadium.
Yakima would send nine hitters to the plate in the bottom of the 1st inning producing five runs off of White who falls to 4-7 on the season. The big blow in the inning was a double off the bat of C Ronnie Freeman that scored both 1B Jacob House (fielder's choice) and 3B Mark Ginther (single) that made it 5-0 for the Bears.
White would run into trouble again in the bottom of the 2nd inning allowing two more runs after he gave up a leadoff double to DH Yogey Perez-Ramos and a single to SS Kevin Medrano before manager Clayton McCullough came to end White's night. Both Perez-Ramos and Medrano would come around to count with RHP Nick Purdy trying to stop the Bears potent offense who led 7-0 through two innings.
Vancouver would grab their only run of the night in the top of the 4th inning when 3B Derrick Chung would draw a leadoff walk from RHP Blake Perry (5-1) before giving up a double to RF Matt Newman to cut the Bears lead to 7-1.
Yakima would plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to win going away, 9-1 the final, handing Vancouver a crucial loss to open this five-game series.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 20-15 (.571) on the second half of the season, and fall to gain any ground on the Eugene Emeralds with four games remaining on the NWL regular season schedule. The Emeralds had yet to finish their game at home vs. Spokane as of this release.
