Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Gioskar Amaya and Jeimer Candelario each hit long home runs in a five-run second inning, as the Boise Hawks opened their final regular-season homestand with a win, topping the Everett Aquasox, 7-3, at Memorial Stadium.
After spotting Everett a 1-0 lead on a first inning Taylor Ard RBI single, the Hawks bats erupted - taking the lead in the bottom of the frame on a two-run double from Willson Contreras. In the second, Amaya launched a three-run homer off the top of the scoreboard in left to push the lead to 5-1. After an infield Stephen Bruno single, which extended his hit streak to 18 games, Candelario hit a two-run homer to right, making it 7-1.
It was enough for the Hawks, as four pitchers limited Everett to just one earned run. Brian Smith tossed two and two-third innings of shutout relief for his first win, while Rafael Diplan got the final four outs for his first save.
Bruno went 3-for-5 in the victory, with Contreras and Marco Hernandez each recording two hits. Brock Hebert and Dario Pizzano each had two hits in the loss for the Aquasox.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night, with Tayler Scott meeting Marcos Reyna at 6:45 p.m.
