Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - A quartet of defensive errors early on was enough for the Vancouver Canadians to stumble to a 7-0 defeat on Saturday night against the Tri-City Dust Devils. Saturday's loss marks the second time in three games that the Canadians have been shut out by the Dust Devils.
Vancouver starter RHP Jesse Hernandez gave up a leadoff double to Dust Devils 2B Brian Humphries who would come around to score on a single to center field off the bat of DH Tyler Massey giving Tri-City an early 1-0 lead. Massey would advance out to second base when Canadians CF Jon Jones threw the ball wide on his relay back into the infield. Massey would score shortly after on an RBI single from LF Juan Crousset.
The Dust Devils extended their lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning when 3B Matt Argyropoulos reached base on a throwing error charged to Canadians 3B Roan Salas. The errant throw would go into the stands and put Argyropoulos out at second base where he would come into count on a double from C Rich Pirkle giving Tri-City a 3-0 lead.
More offense for the Dust Devils in the bottom of the 3rd inning as the RHP Jesse Hernandez gave up back-to-back singles to 2B David Hernandez and DH Tyler Massey respectively. With Hernandez out at second base. C's RHP Jesse Hernandez would spin to attempt a pickoff out at second base and instead send his offering sailing into center field allowing both runners to advance.
From there, a sacrifice fly off the bat of LF Juan Crousset scored Hernandez from third base extending the lead to 4-0.
Tri-City just kept coming as the home team plated a trio of runs in the bottom of the 4th inning chasing RHP Jesse Hernandez from the game. The big blow was a two-run double from DH Tyler Massey that scored both C Rich Pirkle and Brian Humphries. When the dust had finally settled the C's found themselves down by seven.
Dust Devils starter RHP Nelson Gonzalez was fantastic over his six innings of work as he scattered six hits, striking out six while moving to a league leading 6-0 with an ERA of 0.88 on the season.
