Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - One of the lynchpins of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' defence will be wearing Blue & Gold for the foreseeable future. The Bombers announced today that defensive end Tom Canada has agreed to terms with the football club. As per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We're pleased to be able to keep a player of Tom Canada's ability in Blue and Gold," said Bombers General Manager Brendan Taman. "We believe Tom has only begun to realize his potential and we are confident that he will be an impact player for many years to come."

Canada started all 18 regular season games for the Blue Bombers in 2005. It marked the second year in a row he didn't miss a game. Canada led all Bomber defenders in fumble recoveries last season with three and also forced a fumble. The California native finished second on the team in quarterback sacks with nine, second only to rookie phenom Gavin Walls who had 12. Canada finished seventh on the Bombers in defensive tackles with 44.

In 2004 Canada burst on the scene with one of the finest seasons by a Bombers rookie defender in recent history with 43 tackles, seven QB sacks, one fumble return and one pass knock down. He was chosen the club's Most Outstanding Rookie that season and was a CFL West Division All-Star.

Canada is a graduate of the University of California-Berkeley Golden Bears football program. He was an All-Pac 10 honourable mention at Cal-Berkeley and was a recipient of the school's prestigious Dink Artal Award, given annually to the player who best exemplifies Cal spirit.
