Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, Mass. - Less than a week after completing another stellar Can-Am League season, Brockton Rox outfielder Chris Valencia's contract was purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization on Wednesday. As all of the Diamondbacks' farm clubs have completed their regular seasons, Valencia will likely join the club at spring training next February, and be assigned to an affiliate at its conclusion.

One of three Rox representatives on the league's post-season all-star team, Valencia led the Rox in a variety of offensive categories, with:

- .342 batting average (third in Can-Am League)

- 132 hits (first in Can-Am League)

- 30 doubles (franchise record, second in Can-Am League)

- 8 triples (tied for second in Can-Am League)

- 41 stolen bases (franchise record, second in Can-Am League)

- 76 runs (franchise record, tied for first in Can-Am League)

He was one of two Rox players to appear in all 93 of the team's regular-season games, and helped to lead the club to its third consecutive playoff berth.

It was the third consecutive 100-hit season for the 2009 league Rookie of the Year and the July 2011 league player of the month. Valencia is the franchise leader with 78 stolen bases and 16 triples, is fourth all-time with 77 doubles, and fifth with 197 runs scored.

Brockton has been the only professional team the Los Angeles native has played for; his college baseball was played at Lewis-Clark State.

Valencia is the second Rox player to be sold to a major-league organization this season, and the eighth since 2005. Brockton 3B Jorge Jimenez's contract was purchased by the Cincinnati Reds in June. In 34 games for Class-A Bakersfield, Jimenez hit .256 with three home runs and 28 RBI.

ROX ALUM DELABAR PROFFERS SUPERB MAJOR-LEAGUE DEBUT

Seattle - Five days after being called up to the major leagues by the Seattle Mariners, Brockton Rox alumnus Steve Delabar made his first major-league appearance on Sunday. The righthander didn't disappoint, pitching a perfect ninth inning and striking out Kansas City's two leading hitters, RF Alex Gordon and CF Melky Cabrera, in the Mariners' 2-1 loss to the Royals.

Delabar pitched parts of the 2008 and 2009 seasons with the Rox. He was signed by the Mariners in April 2011 and started the season in Single-A. He is the first former Brockton player to reach the major leagues.
