Columbia Fireflies News Release

COLUMBIA, SC - The Fireflies continue to surge. On Saturday, Yeizo Campos turned in seven brilliant innings and helped Columbia defeat Asheville, 5-4. The victory was the Fireflies' third straight and eighth of their last 10.

Saturday was the longest outing of the season for Campos (W, 2-4). The 22-year-old struck out seven, scattered five hits and did not walk anyone. At one point, Campos retired 14 straight hitters (from the second to the seventh innings). Campos's win is his first since June 17 in Hagerstown.

The offense continued rolling, too. The Fireflies led 3-1 in the second frame, tagging starter Frederis Parra (L, 4-4), and stretched the lead to 4-1 by the fifth. Columbia (26-31, 60-64) immediately responded with a run moments after Asheville (31-28, 58-70) scored twice in the seventh. It proved to be a pivotal insurance run when the Tourists scored a run in the ninth.

Three Fireflies - Hansel Moreno, Scott Manea and Jose Brizuela - all tallied multiple hits on Saturday and extended impressive streaks:

Consecutive Multi-Hit Game Streaks:

Moreno - 5

Manea - 3

Brizuela - 3

Moreno and Manea are hitting .400 and .394 respectively since August 12. Brizuela's three-hit night on Saturday was his first of the year.

Jay Jabs also launched his second homer of the season in the seventh. Columbia has blasted a homer in nine of its last 10 games.
