York Revolution News Release
The Camden Riversharks defeated the York Revolution 2-1 Thursday night at Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ. The game featured some brilliant pitching as there were only a combined nine hits between the two teams and it was a scoreless game all the way until the seventh inning. With the loss, the Revs now fall back to 1.5 games behind Lancaster for first place in the Freedom Division. York will open up a three game series against the Somerset Patriots Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ.
It was a pitcher's duel in this game all the way until the top of the seventh inning when Revs 1B Chris Nowak drilled a solo shot to left field giving York a 1-0 lead.
The Riversharks took the lead, 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning off of some clutch hitting and speedy base running. CF Jonel Pacheco got things going for Camden by starting the rally on a line drive double to right-center. He was then brought home on a triple from 3B Lloyd Turner, who just made it to third base before the throw came in. Then to take the lead, LF Noah Hall smacked a shallow sacrifice fly to center that scored Turner.
Camden reliever Mumba Rivera earned the win (2-2) after pitching a perfect eighth inning striking out two Revs batters. Starter Wilkin De la Rosa pitched a scoreless three innings in his first appearance of the year only allowing one hit while walking three and striking out two. Riversharks closer Jay Marshall earned his fifth save of the season to close out the game.
York reliever Geoff Geary took the loss (3-2) giving up the only two Rivershark runs of the game. Starter Corey Thurman had another great outing only giving up three hits and allowing two walks while striking out three in his seven innings of work.
The Revs will travel to Somerset with starter Matt DeSalvo (6-3, 3.72) taking the mound in the series opener against the Patriots' Chris Oxspring (2-5, 5.02) Friday night starting at 7:05 p.m. at TD Bank Ballpark. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (WPDC) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
Notes: York falls to 9-3 against the Riversharks in the season series. 2B Eric Eymann has extended his hitting streak to seven games. Thurman has held the opposition to three earned runs or fewer in 17 of his 19 starts this year, including each of his last seven games started. Thurman has also gone at least five innings in 17 of his 19 starts this year, including in each of his last five. Nowak has now hit 11 home runs since July 10 (27 games), with four of those coming in the last five games.
