(Central Islip, N.Y., August 11, 2011) -The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-2 on Thursday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,013 to complete a three-game sweep of the cross-sound rivals.
The Ducks struck first with a RBI single by Dan Lyons in the second inning off Bluefish starter Paul Oseguera for a 1-0 lead. Both teams exchanged zeroes until the seventh inning when a run-scoring bloop double by Steve Moss off Ducks' starter Mike Loree tied the game at one.
The Bluefish broke the tie in the eighth when pinch hitter Brock Peterson hit a solo home run to right. However, the Ducks rallied back for three in the bottom of the eighth to secure another come-from-behind win. Matt Esquivel's two-run double with the bases loaded and a sac fly by Kraig Binick gave Long Island a 4-2 lead.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Loree pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on nine hits while striking out seven. Oseguera also pitched seven innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits with three strikeouts.
Jeremy Hill (4-1) got the win despite allowing the homer to Peterson in one-third of an inning. Antonio Alfonseca (2-4) took the loss after surrendering three runs on three hits in one inning of work. Bubbie Buzachero nailed down his 15th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
