Calvert Assigned to Falcons

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned left wing Matt Calvert to the Springfield Falcons, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, club Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced today.

Calvert, 21, has recorded two goals and one assist for three points and four penalty minutes in nine games with the Blue Jackets since being recalled on January 6. He scored the first goal of his NHL career at Los Angeles on January 8. He has added 13-11-24 and 12 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Falcons to rank second on the club in power play goals (4), third in goals and fourth in points.

The Brandon, Manitoba native was the Blue Jackets' fifth pick, 127th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft. He collected 47-52-99, 70 penalty minutes and was +47 in 68 games for the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings last season. He led the league in shorthanded goals (9), ranked second in game-winning goals (10), third (tied) in goals and was fourth (tied) in points. He was selected to the WHL Eastern Conference Second All-Star Team. He added 9-7-16 and 15 penalty minutes in 15 playoff games to help Brandon reach the Memorial Cup Final and was named to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team. He notched 99-131-230, 181 penalty minutes and had a cumulative plus/minus rating of +83 in 198 career games with Brandon, including 10-10-20, 24 penalty minutes and was +13 in 18 career playoff games.
