Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - Calgary Hitmen together with Canada Safeway are challenging Calgarians to participate in "Movember", a month to fight prostate cancer.
Hitmen Head Coach Mike Williamson and Hitmen players are encouraging Calgarians and Hitmen fans to grow a mustache during the month of November to raise pledges and awareness for Prostate Cancer Canada. According to Coach Williamson "the fight against Prostate Cancer is so important because it is the most common cancer to affect Canadian men and that is why our hockey club is so committed to this cause."
On November 6th the Calgary Hitmen will be promoting the fight against prostate cancer with representatives from Safeway and Prostate Cancer Canada. "The Calgary Hitmen are very excited to have Safeway, our players, staff and all Hitmen fans join the fight against prostate cancer," commented Mike Moore, Hitmen Director of Business Operations. "The Movember promotion is an opportunity for all involved to have some fun while heightening awareness and raising funds for research with the ultimate goal of finding a cure for this disease."
"Canada Safeway is a long standing partner of Prostate Cancer Canada and it was a natural fit for us to participate in the Hitmen Movember event," said Chuck Mulvenna, President and Chief Operating Officer for Canada Safeway.
During his lifetime, 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with the disease, and this number is expected to rise to 1 in 4 within a decade. Prostate cancer is over 90 per cent curable if detected and treated in its earliest stages. In addition to investing in research, Movember raises awareness and ultimately saves lives. Funds raised will support the development of programs related to prostate cancer awareness, education, and research into the prevention, early detection, treatment and possible cure of prostate cancer.
Media personalities and all Calgarians are invited to join the "Hitmen Movember Team" in growing a moustache for the month. Hitmen players, management and staff will be taking part and encouraging donations in support of this campaign for the entire month.
