Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club announced today forwards Kyle Bortis and Carson McMillan will serve as co-captains for the 2008-09 season.

Both are 20-year-olds and in their final season in the Western Hockey League. They take over the leadership role from the departed Karl Alzner who turned pro and is currently playing in the American Hockey League with the Washington Capitals affiliate in Hershey.

Bortis is in his second full season with the Hitmen after being acquired early last season from the Swift Current Broncos. He topped all Hitmen scorers in 2007-08 posting a career high 37 goals. This season Bortis has 20 points (7 g 13a) in 16 games.

McMillan, a draft choice of the Minnesota Wild, is now in his fourth full season in Calgary. He recorded career highs in goals (16), assists (26) and points (42) last season. McMillan is off to a terrific start this season averaging more than a point a game with 14 points (5g 9a) in 12 games.

The Hitmen will have two assistant captains this season; Alex Plante and Brett Sonne.

Calgary, winners of six in a row, returns to action tonight as they open a two game tour of Saskatchewan with a stop in Prince Albert. The Hitmen lead the Eastern Conference with a 13-3 record while the Raiders are tied for sixth at 9-8.
