Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), seven-time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Dustin Wolf has been selected by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round (214th overall) of the 2019 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
"Dustin Wolf personifies preparation and perseverance - he's earned this moment and we congratulate him on his selection by the Calgary Flames in the NHL Entry Draft," said Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson. "His athleticism, focus, and talent are reinforced by spectacular numbers he's put up in just two years with our organization. We're extremely proud of him and the body of work he's put together to potentially make an impact in the Flames organization."
This season, Wolf, 18, was named WHL Western Conference Goaltender of the Year, CHL Scholastic Player of the Year, and winner of the Silvertips Most Dedicated Player, Community Relations, and Scholastic Player of the Year awards. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound goaltender broke the Silvertips record and led the WHL in wins (41) this season, also leading the league in save percentage (.936), goals-against-average (1.69), and minutes (3,615).
Wolf was also second in shutouts (7), and fourth in saves (1,493), posting the second highest save percentage in the franchise's single season history, the second lowest goals-against-average in franchise history - and fourth lowest in WHL history.
He recorded 30 saves or more in a game, 12 times in the regular season and earned a season high 43 saves on Dec. 8 in a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent, Wash.
Wolf, named WHL Western Conference first team All-Star this season, is 54-21-2-2 over 81 regular season games in his WHL career with the Silvertips, along with a .934 save percentage, 1.83 goals-against-average, and 11 shutouts. In December, Wolf was named the WHL Vaughn Goaltender of the Month, while this season he was also a six-time recipient of WHL Eli Wilson Goaltending Goaltender of the Week honors and on three occasions was named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week.
In Silvertips all-time history, Wolf is already fifth in wins, fourth in shutouts, and the current all-time leader in save percentage and goals-against-average (minimum 20 games). He recorded his first career postseason shutout in Game 4 of the first round of the 2019 WHL Playoffs against Tri-City. His 1.83 career goals-against-average currently ranks second lowest in league history (minimum of 60 games played).
His reception of the CHL Scholastic Player of the Year award was maintained with a 100% average across a Grade 12 workload covering four courses including English, Statistics, Economics, and American Government. Overall, Wolf posted a 98.8 percent average over his high school years.
Wolf, along with defenseman Gianni Fairbrother (Montreal), are among five Silvertips who have been selected in the NHL Draft over the last two years. A total of 19 players have made their debut in the NHL after suiting up for the Silvertips, who began play in 2003-04.
