Hershey Bears News Release
7/13/2006 7:01:00 PM - Washington Capitals Vice President and General Manager, George McPhee, in conjunction with HERSHEY BEARS President and General Manager, Doug Yingst, announced today that they have re-signed free agent goaltender Frederic Cassivi. As per club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
"Number one priority for the BEARS this summer was signing Frederic, and today that priority came to fruition," said Yingst.
Cassivi, 6'4" 220 pounds, led the BEARS to their ninth Calder Cup Championship in 2006 and won the Jack A. Butterfield trophy as the most valuable player in the 2006 playoffs. Cassivi also became the first BEAR to register 30 or more wins in a season since J.F. Labbe in 1996-97. During Cassivi's second stint with the BEARS, he registered 34 regular season wins and added 16 Calder Cup playoff wins to become the first BEARS goaltender to record 50 wins in one campaign.
"This is the place I call home and for me there isn't any other place I would rather play; outside of the NHL," said Cassivi. "The fan support in Hershey has always been terrific and they took it to the next level during the playoffs to help bring the Calder Cup home. This organization has a commitment to winning that I want to carry on."
HERSHEY will host its 69th home opener in team history on Saturday, October 21 at GIANT Center at 7:00 p.m. BEARS season tickets can be purchased by calling 717-508-BEAR or visiting HersheyBears.com.
