Danis, Milroy, Archer and Jancevski sign with Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signings of goaltender Yann Danis, forward Duncan Milroy, defenseman Andrew Archer, and free-agent defencemen Dan Jancevski to two-way American Hockey League / National Hockey League contracts for the 2006-2007 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

In 2005-2006, Danis, 25, played with the Montreal Canadiens and the Hamilton Bulldogs. With the Canadiens, Danis, a 6'0'', 181-pound-goaltender, posted a record of three wins and two losses in six games, a 2.69 goals-against-average and a .908 save percentage. On October 12, 2005, in Atlanta against the Thrashers, he became the third goaltender in Canadiens' history, and the 16th in NHL history, to register a shutout in his first ever game in the NHL.

With the Bulldogs, Danis, a native of Lafontaine, Quebec, played in 39 games and posted a record of 17 wins, 17 losses and three overtime losses. He completed the season with a 2.97 goals-against-average and .902 save percentage. Danis signed with the Canadiens as a free agent on March 19, 2004.

Milroy, 23, played in 77 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2005-2006 and totaled 35 points, including 16 goals, with 63 penalty minutes. In three full seasons with the Bulldogs, Milroy, a 6'1'', 204-pound right-winger, scored 35 goals and added 47 assists for a total of 82 points in 203 games. Milroy, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, was the Canadiens' 2nd round pick, 37th overall, in 2001.

Archer, 23, totaled three assists and 62 penalty minutes in 42 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2005-2006. The 6'04'', 212-pound defenseman missed about half of last season due to injury. In three full seasons with the Bulldogs, Archer scored one goal and added 14 assists for a total of 15 points and 197 penalty minutes in 140 games. Archer, a native of Calgary, Alberta, was the Canadiens' 7th round pick, 203rd overall, in 2001.

Jancevski, 25, played in 77 games with the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League and collected 38 points, including nine goals, and 91 penalty minutes. The 6'03'', 212-pound defenseman also took part in two games with the Dallas Stars, without getting any points.

In 2004-2005, Jancevski, a native of Windsor, Ontario, played for the Hamilton Bulldogs, where he registered six goals and added 20 assists for a total of 26 points, and 163 penalty minutes. Jancevski, who played his junior hockey in the OHL with the London Knights and the Sudbury Wolves, between 1998 and 2001, was the Stars' 2nd round pick, 66th overall, in 1999.

In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
