Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today they have signed defenseman P.J. Atherton to a standard American Hockey League contract. Per club policy, terms of the deals weren't disclosed.
Atherton played in nine games for the Falcons during the 2005-06 season collecting one goal and three assists for four points after completing his collegiate career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Atherton scored his first professional goal on March 31 against the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Edina, Minnesota native registered at least a point in three of his first four pro games.
"P.J. joined us late in the season last year and was steady on the blueline for us down the stretch," said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon. "P.J. comes from a very successful college program and I am looking forward to watching P.J. compete for a job during training camp this year."
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound blueliner played in 106 career games with the Golden Gophers collecting five goals and 12 assists for 17 points and 146 penalty minutes. Atherton was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the sixth round (170th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
The Falcons are currently accepting deposits on full, half, and 10-game season ticket packages for the 2006-07 season, in addition to 40 and 10-Flex Packs. For more information regarding season ticket information, contact the Falcons office at 413-739-3344.
