Flint Firebirds News Release

The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has signed Flint Firebirds' forward Nick Caamano to a three-year entry-level contract. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Caamano, 18, agreed to terms with Dallas two days after signing an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) this past Tuesday, Apr. 4. He was the second player out of the Flint Firebirds' organization to be drafted when he was selected by the Stars in the fifth-round, 146th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft in June.

After being called up Tuesday to Dallas' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Texas Stars, Caamano played in his first professional hockey game Wednesday night and recorded one assist and a plus-one rating.

"As a drafted development player in our program, this is a great step towards his dream of ultimately playing in the NHL," said Flint Firebirds Head Coach Ryan Oulahen. "We look forward to Nick being a key performer and leader for our hockey club next year."

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound forward enjoyed a breakout campaign for Flint this season, finishing third on the Firebirds' roster in scoring with 64 points (35G, 29A) and 63 penalty minutes in 67 games, all career-highs. He was tied for third in the OHL with four shorthanded goals and shared fifth in the League with 14 power play goals, leading Flint in both categories. Caamano has spent three combined seasons with the Flint Firebirds' and Plymouth Whalers' franchises after being selected by the Whalers in the second-round, 27th overall of the 2014 OHL Draft.

The Ancaster, Ont. native accumulated 110 points (58g, 52a) and 132 penalty minutes in 195 career games in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Caamano played his youth hockey with the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs in the South Central (Ontario) Triple A (SCTA) league.
