Erie Otters News Release

After dispatching the Sarnia Sting in four games to secure a second round berth, the Otters faced the London Knights in Erie. The Knights defeated the Windsor Spitfires in round one, coming back from a 3-1 series deficit to win in game seven. Despite outshooting their opponent 46-12, the Otters dropped Game 1 by a score of 2-0.

It's the third time in a row the Otters and Knights have faced each other in the playoffs; they're perhaps the two biggest rivals in the OHL. Both teams charged out for a physical, heavy-hitting, fast-paced first period, but London goaltender Tyler Parsons was the difference-maker early in the period, making eight saves before the halfway mark. Parsons would finish with fifteen saves on the period, as the Otters outshot the Knights 15-3 but failed to score through twenty minutes.

The Otters continued their relentless onslaught in the offensive zone during the second period, but Parsons continued his stellar play in the London net, buying them an opportunity to stay in the game. The Knights rewarded their goaltender for his outstanding performance, as Evan Bouchard banged in the rebound to make it 1-0. The Otters scored shortly thereafter, but the on-ice officials waved it off, citing contact with goaltender Parsons as the reason. Then, London scored just before the period ended to make it 2-0 heading into the third.

Parsons was pummeled with shots in the third period, but again saved every shot he faced, covering up the amount of time the Knights spent in their defensive zone. Despite managing just 12 shots through the entire game and surrendering 46, the Knights managed to secure the 2-0 victory off the stellar play of Tyler Parsons.

Alex DeBrincat had six shots on goal, while Dylan Strome had five. Troy Timpano made 10 saves on 12 shots in the loss.

Bouchard and Stephens scored the Knights' goals, while Tyler Parsons stopped all 46 shots he faced.

The Otters face the Knights again on Friday, April 7 for Game 2, where they'll look to tie the series up before heading to London for Games 3 and 4.
