Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - For the second year in a row, CAA Manitoba and the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings are teaming up with CAA School Safety Patrols to promote road safety and welcome families on the first day of school.

"Back to school is a busy time - not just for kids but for the community, thanks to traffic in school zones picking up," says Chris Heide, manager of the Brandon CAA store. "Our CAA School Safety Patrols help encourage folks to practice proper road safety and having the Wheat Kings join patrols on duty the first day back to school helps raise awareness that school zone safety is everyone's responsibility."

Brandon Wheat King veterans Caiden Daley and Braden Schneider will be stationed at Linden Lanes school at 8:15 am to help patrols and speak with parents about their role in teaching and promoting road safety.

Daley, a former member of the Winnipeg AAA Midget Wild, is very familiar with Manitoba's School Patrol Safety program and is proud to be a part of this year's opening day.

"I know the kinds of leadership and pride that school patrols feel because they serve as important road safety role models," says Daley, who is entering his third season with the Wheat Kings. "No matter what the weather is, patrols are out there working hard and helping to keep the students safe."

"Please join the Wheat Kings and CAA Manitoba in being extra careful and considerate when we're driving, walking or biking anywhere," he added.

In addition to helping out with opening day of school, the Wheat Kings and CAA Manitoba will be among the partners helping to host a special Salute to School Patrols this October.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings open up their 4-game pre-season schedule this Friday night at Westoba Place against the visiting Regina Pats.
