
C Brett Cumberland Promoted to Mississippi, Lien Placed on DL

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster move affecting the M-Braves roster before tonight's 7:00 pm game against Mobile at Trustmark Park. C Brett Cumberland has been promoted to Mississippi from High-A Florida and OF Connor Lien has been placed on the 7-day Disabled List, retroactive to July 23.
Cumberland, 23, the Atlanta Braves No. 22 prospect according to MLB.com is promoted to Double-A after appearing in 82 games and batting .236 (66-for-280) with 15 doubles, 11 home runs, 39 RBI, 40 runs and .367 on-base percentage during a Florida State Lague All-Star season for the Fire Frogs.
The switch-hitting catcher out of Cal was Atlanta's Competitive Balance Round B selection in 2016 - 76th overall. Nine of Cumberland's 11 home runs have come from the left side of the plate this season. Cumberland has consistently been an on-base machine for the Fire Frogs this season, accumulating an FSL-most 52 walks. Cumberland has a .427 OBP in July, batting .277 with five doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, 14 walks and a .919 OPS.
In 2017, the Turlock, CA native (annual precipitation is 11.88 inches) became the first Braves prospect with an on-base percentage over .400 (min. 350 at-bats) since Kyle Kubitza reached base at a .405 clip in 2014 He also ranked in the Top 10 among Atlanta prospects in OPS (3rd, .855), RBI (4th, 69), walks (T4th, 49), slugging percentage (9th, .445) and home runs (T9th, 11) and was named a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star, and SAL Player of the Week for 5/22-28 (.429/.500/.964 in seven games).
Cumberland was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year in his sophomore season as a Golden Bear after hitting .344 with 16 home runs, 51 RBI, 46 runs, ten doubles and a triple. He led the Pac-12 in home runs, ranked second in RBI and tied for sixth in batting average. He also earned second-team All-America (ABCA), third team All-America (Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper) honors and was a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes and Johnny Bench Awards.
Lien, 24, has appeared in 85 games this season for Mississippi, batting .189 (43-for-228) with 20 extra-base hits, 22 RBI, 24 runs scored and six stolen bases. The Orlando, FL native has appeared in 268 games for the M-Braves over the past three seasons and was Atlanta's 12th round selection in 2012 out of Olympia HS (FL).
The Mississippi Braves roster currently stands at 25 active players, one MLB Rehab and five on the DL.
