Buzzards Schedule Released

EL PASO, Texas â The Central Hockey League today released the official 2002-2003 season schedule including all 64 home and away games of the El Paso Buzzards who will open their season on the road on Thursday, October 17th against the San Angelo Outlaws. The Buzzards play their first home games in a weekend stand at the El Paso County Coliseum beginning on Saturday, October 26th against the Outlaws and then again on Sunday, October 27th against the Corpus Christi IceRays.
"We are excited about our schedule," said John Zang, Buzzards' vice-president and director of operations. "And we look forward to welcoming the Memphis RiverKings and the Laredo Bucks to the Nest for the first time this season."
The Buzzards play the bulk of their home schedule in the first half of the season playing 19 home games before the New Year. Due to the Southwest Rodeo that takes place in the County Coliseum each February, the team is on the road from January 24th â February 9th. President's Cup Champions the Memphis RiverKings will make their El Paso debut on January 20th.
The Buzzards play their first of nine games against last year's regular season champions the Odessa Jackalopes, who were recently voted "Most Hated Rival" by Buzzards' fans on the team's web site, on Saturday, November 23rd. The Buzzards look forward to another heated rivalry against the Jackalopes after ousting them during the first round of the 2002 President's Cup play-offs. The Buzzards' other big rival, the New Mexico Scorpions, visit the Nest for the first time on Halloween night. The Buzzards and the Scorps will battle it out eleven times this season.
The El Paso Buzzards will play in the CHL's Southwestern Division along with the Jackalopes, the Scorpions, and the Lubbock Cotton Kings, who the Buzzards will play nine times.
The El Paso Buzzards play in the professional Central Hockey League. The team begins their seventh season of play in October and will host their first home game on Saturday, October 26th against the New Mexico Scorpions.
