INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice opens up its 2002-2003 campaign with an opening weekend of Pepsi Coliseum home games starting with the Tulsa Oilers on Friday, October 18th and followed by the defending CHL Champion Memphis RiverKings on Saturday. The club returns home the following weekend for its first of eight games at the Conseco Fieldhouse when the team hosts the RiverKings on Saturday, October 26th. Indianapolis will play a 64-game schedule with 29 of its 32 home games on the weekend. All games Monday-Saturday will take place at 7:00 p.m. while game times on the three Sunday dates are TBA. The Ice is slated to play 24 of its 32 games at the Pepsi Coliseum with the remaining eight games to be played at the Conseco Fieldhouse.
"I am confident in saying that this is probably the best schedule in the history of the franchise," said Ice General Manager Larry Linde. "It's due in large part to the cooperation of Bill Stinson and the staff at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Rick Fuson and the staff at Conseco Fieldhouse."
The 2002-03 version of the CHL consists of 16 teams that will be split into two conferences and four divisions. The Ice remains in the Northeast Division of the Northern Conference and is joined by Bossier-Shreveport (LA), Fort Worth and Memphis. The Northwest Division of the Northern Conference includes Amarillo, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Wichita. The Southern Conference includes teams in El Paso, Laredo, Lubbock, New Mexico, Odessa, Austin, Corpus Christi and San Angelo.
