The Central Hockey League has today announced finalization of the 2002/2003 Regular Season Schedule. Working in conjunction with Optimal Planning Solutions, the CHL Schedule features nearly 80% of its' games on weekend days. 176 of the CHL's 512 game schedule occur on Saturdays (34.3%), 174 take place on Fridays (33.9%) and 56 games (10.9%) will be played on Sundays.

The 2002-2003 regular season schedule opens up with a pair of games on Thursday, October 17th. The expansion Laredo Bucks open their inaugural season with a road contest at Corpus Christi, while the defending President' s Cup Champion Memphis RiverKings visit the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in a rematch of last season's Northern Conference Finals. The following night, eight member teams play their home openers, including the Oklahoma City Blazers, who host the defending Southern Conference Champion Austin Ice Bats in the first ever CHL game at the brand new Ford Center. The unbalanced schedule will see each team play a total of 32 home and 32 away games, focusing on maximizing strong traditional and geographic rivals.

"Our priorities relative to the 2002-2003 CHL schedule were to first place a significant emphasis on maximizing quality weekend dates, which allows our fans the greatest opportunity to follow CHL action, and to secondly emphasize the many strong geographical and traditional rivalries already in place," said Steve Cherwonak, Director of Communications for the CHL. "We feel we have accomplished our objectives with this schedule."

The complete CHL 512-game schedule is available at www.centralhockeyleague.com along with all individual team by team schedules. For more information, please contact the CHL or your local team.
