Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Fort Worth-Hockey fans in Ft. Worth can finally mark their calendars. The 2002-2003 schedule for the Ft. Worth Brahmas was officially released by the Central Hockey League office this afternoon. The Brahmas will begin their second season in the CHL on Friday, October 18, 2002 at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita, Kansas against their Northern Conference rivals, the Wichita Thunder. After five consecutive road games, the Brahmas will host their home opener at the Ft. Worth Convention Center on Saturday, November 2, 2002 at 7:35 PM against the Indianapolis Ice.
The Brahmas will again play a 64 game schedule this season. The schedule will be split evenly, with 32 games being played on home ice, and 32 games being played on the road. Of the 32 Brahmas home dates, 29 will be played at the Ft. Worth Convention Center. Three of the Brahmas home games--on February 8th against El Paso, February 9th against New Mexico, and February 11th against Wichita-- will be played at the venerable Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum.
A large portion of the Brahmas games this season will be played against their divisional opponents. Ft. Worth will play their three Northeast Division foesâMemphis, Indianapolis, and Bossier-Shreveportâa total of 19 times. The Brahmas will battle the defending CHL champion RiverKings 5 times (2H/3A). Ft. Worth will take on Indianapolis 7 times (3H/4A). Ft. Worth and Bossier-Shreveport will add seven more chapters to their storied rivalry this year, with the Brahmas traveling to bayou three times and the Mudbugs coming to Cowtown on four occasions.
The other Northern Conference teamsâOklahoma City, Wichita, Tulsa, and Amarilloâare also prominent on the Brahmas schedule. Ft. Worth and Oklahoma City will renew their I-35 rivalry seven times this year, with the Blazers coming to Ft. Worth three times and the Brahmas traveling to the Ford Center in Oklahoma City for four games. Ft. Worth will meet Wichita a total of seven times (4H/3A), and the Brahmas will take on the Tulsa Oilers six times (4H/2A).
The Brahmas will have six games this year against their chief rival, the Austin Ice Bats. Austin will come to the FWCC for three games. The Brahmas will make the trip down south to Austin three times. The first time that the Brahmas and Bats play this season will be on Friday, November 8, 2002 here in Ft. Worth at 7:05 PM.
Although the Brahmas will play every team in the CHL at least once this season, there are two teams that will not make a trip to the Metroplex this year-the San Angelo Outlaws and the El Paso Buzzards.
The Brahmas home dates will once again be centered around the weekend. Of the scheduled 32 home games, 30 of them will be either on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. The Brahmas will also play one home game on a holiday. Fans can start their New Years Eve celebration on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at the FWCC when the Brahmas take on the Indianapolis Ice at 6:05 P.M.
All of the Brahmas Monday through Saturday home games (excluding the home opener and the New Year's Eve game) will start at 7:05 P.M. Sunday home games will start at either 3:05 P.M., 5:05 P.M., 7:05 P.M.
