King County Royals News Release
SEATTLE - The Maywood Buzz used excellent three-point shooting to come from behind and defeat the King County Royals, 117-114, in an exciting American Basketball Association game at the North Seattle Wellness Center on Wednesday.
The Buzz connected on half of their three-point shots in the game, going 13-for-26 from behind the arc. Guard Will Burr led the way from downtown, draining eight of eleven.
The game, which featured 18 total lead changes, was a thrilling affair in which neither team was able maintain a substantial lead during the first three quarters.
King County finally appeared to take control in the fourth quarter, building a 11-point lead with six minutes left to play, but Maywood's defense was able to step up and limited the Royals to just a single field goal in the game's final five minutes.
With King County struggling to hit a shot in the final minutes, the Buzz were quick to take advantage and chipped away at the deficit with a variety of layups, foul shots and three-pointers. The Buzz eventually tied the game at 114-114 with 1:41 left, before Will Burr nailed a deep three-pointer on Maywood's next trip down the court, which proved to be the game's winning and final basket.
King County had an opportunity to tie the game with 20 seconds left to play, but an errant pass was picked off by Burr to eliminate any chance of forcing overtime.
Five players scored in double figures for the Buzz, with Burr's 32 points leading the way. Forward Lamar Gayle added 25 points despite sitting out nearly the entire fourth quarter due to foul trouble.
King County was led by newcomer Jamaal Williams, who scored an 25 points on an efficient 12-of-15 shooting performance. The brotherly combination of Jamie and Roy Booker added 24 and 21 points, respectively, for the Royals.
The Buzz travel to Bellingham on Thursday for a rematch against the Red Conference leading Slam, while the Royals' next home action will take place next Wednesday, Jan. 24 against the Gallup Outlaws.
