King County Royals Suspend Operations
July 19, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
King County Royals News Release
SEATTLE - The King County Royals of the American Basketball Association have announced that the team will be suspending operations, effective immediately. The decision to suspend operations was made as a result of what was expected to be a sharp increase in expenses required to operate the team during the 2007-08 season.
The move comes on the heels of an announcement by the ABA's only other team in the Pacific Northwest, the Bellingham Slam, that they would be withdrawing from the ABA and joining the International Basketball League. Without Bellingham on their schedule, the Royals' closest ABA opponent would have been located over 750 miles away in Sacramento. In addition, with IBL franchises already present in Everett, Seattle, and Tacoma, a move to the IBL was not possible.
The Royals played one season in the ABA, compiling a 6-14 record and missing the playoffs.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
