Gwizzlies Throw Hat In The Ring For Wang Zhizhi
July 19, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Georgia Gwizzlies News Release
Macon, GA. Embry Malone, owner of the ABA Georgia Gwizzlies, has extended an invitation to Wang Zhizhi, the 7'0" Chinese center to play for his team this season. According to Malone, "We think the ABA is a great training ground for international players interested in getting to the NBA - and Zhizhi is certainly one of those players with tremendous potential. He needs some strong competition and good coaching - and it would certainly prepare him for the 2008 Olympics."
"Obviously, we don't want to interfere with any other options available to him; we do want him to know that he is welcome here. Dennis Johnson and I watched him in 2003 playing for the NBA Los Angeles Clippers in the 2003 Summer League and were very impressed with him. He has a great attitude and a willingness to learn."
