Portland Winterhawks News Release
Spokane, Wash. - Diego Buttazzoni netted four points (3G, 1A) while Josh Zakreski (2G, 1A) and Tyson Yaremko (3A) each chipped in triples as the Winterhawks knocked off the Spokane Chiefs 7-6 in overtime on Thursday.
Portland opened up a 3-1 lead through 20 minutes on goals from Zakreski, Buttazzoni and Marcus Nguyen, conceding only to Spokane's Chase Bertholet. Zakreski struck again in the second period, but the Chiefs bagged a pair of their own from Conner Roulette and Carter Streek, then quickly tied the game early in the third period on Lukáš Král's first of the preseason. From there, the teams traded tallies - first Buttazzoni for Portland, then Spokane's Roulette, followed by Carsyn Dyck and Bertholet trading goals less than a minute apart to set up a 6-6 game heading into overtime. But just 1:23 into the extra frame, Buttazzoni completed the hat-trick as Yaremko picked up his third helper of the night to help the Hawks to their second win of preseason play.
Winterhawks goaltender Justen Maric moved to 2-0-0 in preseason action, stopping 38 of 44 shots that came his way on Thursday night.
The Hawks head south to take on the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick tomorrow at 7:05 P.M., followed by a rematch with the Chiefs - also in Kennewick - to close out preseason on Saturday at 2:05 P.M.
