BLAZERS FINALLY BEAT THUNDER- The Blazers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back, defeating the Thunder 4-1 on Tuesday morning in Oklahoma City. Jason Duda scored Wichita's lone goal. The loss snapped Wichita's 10-game winning-streak over Oklahoma City, dating all the way back to January 23, 2004.
THUNDER BEAT RAYZ AGAIN- Trailing 3-2 in the second period, the Thunder scored three unanswered goals, en route to a 5-3 win in Corpus Christi on Friday. Jason Duda and Travis Clayton had two goals each and Paul Esdale scored the game-winner. Jason Flick picked up his 18th win of the season and added his first assist. With the victory, the Thunder moved their record to 5-0-0 all-time versus Corpus Christi.
THUNDER REMAIN WINLESS IN AUSTIN- Chris Richards had four assists, leading the Ice Bats to a 5-4 win over the Thunder on Saturday in Austin. Joe Blaznek led the Thunder with a pair of goals, while Duda and Esdale also scored. The two teams combined for 124 penalty minutes, including a season-high 82 to the Thunder, who are now 0-4-0 all-time in Austin.
DUDA, CLAYTON CONTINUE TO LEAD CHL- Jason Duda and Travis Clayton combined for six goals and 11 points last week, and remain 1-2 in the CHL scoring race. Duda leads the CHL with 56 assists, 83 points and ranks second with a plus/minus rating of +33. Clayton, riding a seven-game scoring streak, ranks second in the CHL with 49 assists, 79 points and 12 power play goals. Their line mate, Joe Blaznek, scored five points last week and now ranks 10th in the CHL with 60 points. He also has 12 power play goals.
ESDALE TIES THUNDER RECORD- With his 20th goal of the season on Saturday, Paul Esdale tied Dave Doucette's 10-year old Thunder single-season record for most goals by a defenseman. Esdale not only leads the CHL, but all pro hockey defensemen (95 teams) in goals scored. Esdale also ranks fourth in the CHL with 11 power play goals, already a Thunder single-season record for a defenseman.
THUNDERBOLTS- Rookie Derek Parker leads the CHL with 32 major penalties and 342 penalty minutes...Parker will be the guest on the Thunder TV Coach's Show, taped every Monday at 5:00 PM at Heroes in Old Town...The show will air on Saturday at Noon on Cox Cable Channel 22, sponsored by Park City...Wichita is second in the CHL, averaging 25.53 penalty minutes per game and on the power play, at 21.1%...The Thunder leads the CHL with 63 first period goals and 66 power play goals...There will be a post game skate with the Thunder following Sunday's game...Thursday, March 3rd is Thunder Night at Wichita Greyhound Park...Call Joel at 264-GOAL to make reservations.
