Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. â The Oklahoma City Blazers longest tenured hockey employees, head coach Doug Sauter and defenseman Hardy Sauter, each surpassed significant Central Hockey League milestones last week.
With the Blazers 5-4 win over Topeka on February 19, Doug Sauter became the first and only coach in CHL history to surpass the 400-win mark. His next victory will propel him to the 600-win mark as a head coach in the professional ranks. Sauter, the longest tenured coach in North American professional hockey, has 1,105 wins in his nearly 30-year coaching career.
Blazers nine-time CHL All-Star Hardy Sauter eclipsed two milestones last week. In the Blazers 4-1 win over the Wichita Thunder on February 15, he moved into third place on the CHL's All-Time points scored list with 663. On February 19, Sauter played in CHL game 578, surpassing Trevor Buchanan for second on the all-time games played list. Earlier this season, he became just the second player in CHL history to record 500 assists.
This week, the Blazers begin a six-game stretch away from the Ford Center in Wichita on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Over the weekend, the Blazers will visit the Colorado Eagles on February 25 and 26 at 8:35 p.m. (CST) and the New Mexico Scorpions on February 27 at 7:05 p.m. (CST). The Blazers trail the Tulsa Oilers by just four points for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference.
NOTE: The Blazers next game is incorrectly listed on some schedules as taking place on Tuesday, February 22. The game is officially scheduled for Wednesday, February 23 at Wichita at 7:05 p.m.
