Boise Hawks News Release

The Boise Hawks (22-17, 1-0) beat the Hillsboro Hops (24-15, 0-1) by a final score of 5-3 on Tuesday night. The Hawks got five-innings of two-run baseball from starter Nick Bush. The lefty picked up his first professional win.

Boise got the games first runs in the top of the 2nd. Danny Edgeworth started the inning with a double, and it was followed by Willie MacIver being hit-by-a-pitch. Daniel Jipping singled to right field and the Hawks had the bases loaded. Cade Harris grounded-out but it scored Edgeworth from 3rd base and moved the runners to second and third-base.

With the Hawks leading 1-0, LJ Hatch came up and plated two runs with a single and Boise led 3-0 after two innings.

In the 3rd inning, with two outs, Bush allowed a double to Tra Holmes. Jose Caballero followed it with a two-run home run to make the score 3-2 after three innings. Those were the only two hits and runs Bush allowed as he went six innings with three strikeouts.

In the 5th inning, Morgan grounded out with Hatch on 3rd base to make it a 5-2 Hawks lead.

After Joel Condreay threw a scoreless 6th inning, Eric Hepple allowed an unearned run on the mound for Boise. After Francis Martinez doubled for Hillsboro, Jake McCarthy singled to put runners on the corners. McCarthy took off for 2nd base and the throw from Hidekel Gonzalez, Boise's catcher, went into centerfield allowing Martinez to score from third-base making the score 5-3 Boise.

The Hawks got a shutout frame from Hunter Williams in the 8th, and then it was PJ Poulin. Poulin got his 4th save of the season by striking-out two batters in the 9th and he has not allowed a run this year in 13 1/3 innings-pitched.

Luke Morgan finishes 1-4 with 2-RBI and a walk, while LJ Hatch goes 2-3 with 2-RBI and a walk.

Boise will play Game #2 of the second-half tomorrow at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, Oregon. First pitch is at 8:05 p.m. MT and can be heard 101.5 KOOL-FM.

The Hawks will return home on Friday, July 27th at 7:15 p.m. to take on the Tri-City Dust Devils. Friday will be the Youth Soccer Ball Giveaway presented by Pepsi. The first 1,000 kids 12-and-under will receive a soccer ball.
