Burse Joins Teammates in Western Conference All-Star Votes

SEATTLE, Thursday, June 21, 2007 - Seattle Storm center Janell Burse has taken over the lead for all Western Conference centers in votes during second returns of the 2007 WNBA All-Star balloting program presented by AOL and T-Mobile. Burse is now in the lead over San Antonio center Ruth Riley with 45,720 votes. Riley is second with 31,537 votes. Burse trailed Riley by 114 votes after the first returns on June 12.

Burse is joined by teammates Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson as top vote-getters at their respective positions. Bird currently has the most votes of any Western Conference player with 75,907 votes and leads San Antonio's Becky Hammon by 7,766 votes. Jackson leads all Western Conference forwards with 63,743 votes, 10,381 votes ahead of Diana Taurasi of Phoenix.

Burse is averaging 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and is shooting .550 percent from the field, which is third-best in the league. Bird is averaging 11.1 points, 4.9 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Jackson is putting up MVP-type numbers again this season by averaging 21.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.22 blocks per game, which leads the league.

The WNBA All-Star Game will be hosted by the Washington Mystics at Verizon Center on Sunday, July 15 and will be televised nationally on ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Starters for the WNBA All-Star Game will be determined by fan balloting ,which began on May 22 and runs through June 24 in WNBA arenas, online and through a variety of other outlets. Starting lineups for both the Western and Eastern Conferences will be announced on Tuesday, July 3. Reserve players will subsequently be selected by the League's Eastern and Western Conference head coaches and announced by the league on Tuesday, July 10.
